Our Method
How we research, compare and update every recommendation published by Watch Safe.
Watch Safe publishes buying guides, comparisons and analysis about watches, watch winders and security solutions. Our goal is straightforward: turn technical specifications into clear decisions for a real collection.
What we evaluate
We begin with the use case: collection value, number of watches, planned acquisitions, installation constraints, insurer requirements and total delivered cost. No product is “the best” in isolation. It must fit a defined scenario.

Our sources
Dimensions, weight, capacity, winding programs and prices come first from manufacturer specification sheets, manuals and official product pages. We check security claims against certification bodies and the relevant standards. We also use insurer materials, logistics documents and owner reports when they provide concrete evidence about delivery, installation or daily use.
We do not present a marketing statement as a verified technical fact. When a certification, price or specification cannot be confirmed, we say so.
How we compare watch safes
- Certification before decoration. We distinguish safes certified under a recognized standard from reinforced cabinets and lockable furniture with no published burglary certification.
- Insurance requirements. A security class never guarantees coverage by itself. The insurer makes the final decision based on the policy, country and completed installation.
- Anchoring and installation. Weight is only one factor. We examine anchoring, the delivery route, floor constraints and room-of-choice placement.
- Usable capacity. We distinguish advertised winder count from the space available for resting watches, jewelry, documents and future acquisitions.
- Total cost. We consider the safe, options, freight, room placement, anchoring and commissioning together.
How we rank products
Recommendations are organized by need and budget. We may recommend an accessible locked cabinet as a first step, a certified safe for a valuable collection or an ultra-luxury solution when finishing and architectural customization form part of the brief.
Our hierarchy uses five factors: fit for purpose, verifiable security, functional quality, total cost and clearly stated limitations. Spectacular finishing cannot compensate for a missing certification, and the heaviest safe is not automatically the right choice for a difficult apartment installation.
Editorial independence
Watch Safe is an independent editorial publication. We have no commercial relationship with the brands evaluated or mentioned in our guides.
No brand selects the products, ranking position or final verdict. We remain free to recommend one brand, prefer another, flag a missing certification or conclude that no purchase is necessary.
Testing and level of evidence
We distinguish direct hands-on use, documentary verification and owner-reported information. We do not describe a product as tested when we have only reviewed documents. When access is limited, the article states what could and could not be observed.
Prices, currencies and markets
The United States edition uses US dollars, inches, pounds and the relevant UL references. The French edition uses euros, metric measurements and applicable European standards. A currency conversion is not a local quotation: taxes, freight, installation and availability may differ.
Updates and corrections
We review buying guides and comparisons when ranges, prices or certifications change and at least during their annual update. Price-sensitive articles display a verification date. When information is wrong or outdated, we correct it and reassess the recommendation if the change affects the verdict.
Our editorial rule: recommend the product that fits the stated need, explain the trade-offs and give the reader enough evidence to verify every important claim.
