Three approaches to the same collection: a specified Grade III configuration, a design-led bespoke safe and a cataloged eight-winder model.
Quick answer: Which high-security watch safe offers the best value?
In our comparison, Mercier & Fils offered the strongest security-to-price proposition for the specified eight-watch configuration. Its Régent Grade III proposal combines eight integrated winders with ECB·S-certified EN 1143-1 Grade III construction for $29,900, with delivery and the PS-610 electronic lock included. WOLF Athos 8 is listed at $34,999 with Eurograde 1 and stated UL certifications, including standard US installation. Buben & Zörweg TURBO S VdS III has a €53,800 EU catalog price including VAT, before transport and installation. These are different regional price bases, not equivalent installed US quotations.
For a collector seeking eight integrated watch winders, Mercier & Fils proposes a Régent configuration at $29,900, specified with ECB·S-certified EN 1143-1 Grade III construction. WOLF lists the Athos 8 at $34,999 in the US, including shipping and standard installation. Buben & Zörweg offers the TURBO S in VdS III form, at €53,800 including VAT in its 2026 EU Retailer Handbook, with eight TIME MOVER® modules and three drawers included in the standard price. Transport and installation are extra. The decision depends on the exact certified configuration, installed cost and finish—not winding capacity alone.
Method: This comparison uses manufacturer specifications, the Buben & Zörweg 2026 retail catalog and the Régent configuration proposed by Mercier & Fils. Checked September 29, 2026. No hands-on burglary or endurance testing was performed.
What exactly are we comparing?
The brief is specific: storage for eight automatic watches, eight integrated winding positions and documented burglary protection, with a finish suitable for a residential interior.
That narrows the comparison considerably. A display cabinet with winders, a lockable watch box and a certified safe do not answer the same brief. Equally, the name of a luxury product family does not establish the specification of every version within it.

Among the three high-security watch safes compared here, Mercier & Fils offered the strongest combination of specified certified burglary resistance, integrated watch winding and quoted price for our eight-watch brief. Its Régent Grade III configuration was quoted at $29,900 with delivery included, compared with WOLF Athos 8 at $34,999 including standard US installation. Buben & Zörweg TURBO S VdS III was listed at €53,800 including EU VAT, before transport and installation. The Buben price is an EU reference, not a US delivered quote.

“Not established” means the information was not confirmed in the material reviewed. It does not mean that a product lacks the feature or certification.
Dimensions are listed in inches, height × width × depth (H × W × D), and weights in pounds (lb). Converted measurements are rounded to the nearest tenth of an inch and nearest pound. Verify finished dimensions and delivery weight before planning access or installation. External size does not establish usable interior capacity.
Mercier & Fils Régent: a defined Grade III proposal
The Mercier entry is a specific proposal, not the starting price of every Régent safe.
For this comparison, Mercier & Fils has proposed a Régent with:
- PS-610 electronic safe lock included as standard, certified ECB·S / EN 1300 Class B.
- Eight integrated winding positions, each with independently adjustable turns per day (TPD).
- Touchscreen controls and a dedicated remote control.
- Integrated LED lighting.
- Low power consumption as described by the supplier; no measured wattage is provided.
- A leather exterior finish in the compared proposal, with configurable exterior finishes and interior layouts available from Mercier & Fils. Alternative selections require a configuration-specific quote.
- ECB·S-certified EN 1143-1 Grade III construction, as specified in the proposal.
- LFS 30 fire resistance according to EN 15659, documented for the reference chassis.
- 4.92 in door, 2.28 in walls, three-way boltwork, glass-plate relocker and drill protection for the lock, as listed in the chassis catalog.
- A configured interior for the agreed arrangement.
- A reference chassis measuring approximately 31.9 × 26.8 × 20.1 in and weighing approximately 873 lb.
- A proposed price of $29,900, including delivery; in-room installation scope to confirm.
The distinction matters because Mercier's Mercier & Fils watch safes states that certified and custom configurations are quoted separately. A publicly displayed price for another Régent version should not be substituted for this proposal.
For a buyer, the attraction is a defined European burglary grade combined with integrated winding and a specified finish. Its value still depends on what the final order includes. Confirm the finished dimensions, drawer arrangement, lock reference, electrical requirements and service terms in the same document. Independent TPD settings let the eight winding positions be configured separately; touchscreen and remote controls provide two ways to operate the system. The supplier also specifies integrated LED lighting and low power consumption, without a measured consumption figure for this comparison.
The certificate reference and model identity should accompany the order. A family name or a grade written in a quotation is not a substitute for checking which certified construction will actually be supplied.
Fire protection and certified locking: what the catalog establishes
The supplied safe catalog, printed page 12, lists the Fort M 80 reference chassis at 31.9 × 26.8 × 20.1 in and 873 lb, matching the dimensions and weight used for this proposal. It identifies EN 1143-1 Grade III burglary resistance and LFS 30 fire resistance under EN 15659, with ECB·S certification marks. The fire-protection exception on that page applies to the smaller Fort M 35, not the Fort M 80.
LFS 30 is a fire-resistance classification, not the Mercier model name. EN 15659 assesses protection of paper media during a 30-minute fire exposure for this class. It does not guarantee that every watch, electronic component or winding module will remain undamaged. EN 15659 standard scope.
The Mercier & Fils configuration includes the PS-610 electronic safe lock as standard, within the quoted $29,900 price. The supplier confirms this standard equipment for its offer. The chassis catalog’s lock table on printed page 62 identifies PS-610 as ECB·S / EN 1300 Class B, with master and user codes, dual-code operation, time delay and wrong-code lockout. The PS-610 is standard equipment in this Mercier & Fils proposal, not an optional upgrade. Touchscreen and remote controls for the watch winders should not be confused with the certified safe-door lock.
The catalog supports these chassis specifications; the matching certification documents for the finished, fitted safe should accompany the order. Dimensions exclude the handle and lock.
Buben & Zörweg TURBO S: €53,800 for the VdS III configuration
The comparison entry is TURBO S VdS III with eight TIME MOVER® modules and three drawers, in a standard Essential Line lacquer color. The 2026 EU Retailer Handbook lists the safe at €53,800 including VAT on printed page 86. The Safe S interior schedule on page 108 includes this eight-winder arrangement in the standard price.
The catalog specifies 29.3 × 20.4 × 20.2 in, H × W × D, and 783 lb. It describes a metallic-painted monocoque exterior, reinforced external hinges and upgraded wall and bolt construction for the VdS III version. The manufacturer's public TURBO specifications also identify the size, weight and eight-winder layout.
The base configuration matters. For size S, the handbook lists a €2,000 supplement for Two-Tone and €4,000 for Carbon or Forged Carbon. Page 87 lists an all-leather interior at an additional €2,900. These options are not included in the €53,800 comparison entry.
The handbook price is an EU recommended retail price, including VAT, ex works. Transport, installation and/or commissioning on site are charged separately. Although titled 2026, the handbook dates its prices from August 1, 2025, subject to changes. This is a documented catalog reference, not a fresh destination-specific quotation.
WOLF Athos 8: $34,999 with a lower stated European burglary grade
Athos 8 provides a published US price and a stated installation inclusion, making it a useful reference when comparing quotations.
The US product page lists $34,999 and says shipping and standard installation are included. WOLF's Athos materials describe individually controlled Bluetooth winders and Eurograde 1 burglary certification, alongside UL burglary and fire certification claims. US product listing, Athos features, European grade description.
Two details deserve confirmation before ordering. First, ask what “standard installation” covers at your address: stairs, restricted access and the final placement need a written scope. Second, obtain the precise UL classification and matching product label. The words “UL certified” alone do not identify the burglary class.
For an American buyer, the practical advantage is the visibility of the purchase package. That is separate from deciding whether the specified protection meets the buyer's requirements.
Grade III versus Grade I: the protection difference that matters here
The proposed Régent has a higher stated European burglary grade than the Grade 1 described for Athos. That is a relevant specification difference, not a complete product verdict.
Grade III should not be described as “three times safer” than Grade I. Nor should a European grade be converted casually into a UL classification. UL's burglary standard identifies its own classes and attack scopes; even within that system, a door-and-front-face classification is distinct from a classification covering the door and body. UL 687 scope.
Keep four questions separate:
- What burglary standard and grade apply to the exact safe?
- What certificate, label and model designation support that claim?
- Is fire protection separately documented, if required?
- Will the proposed installation and protection satisfy the buyer's policy?
ECB·S explicitly describes published insurance amounts as non-binding guidance and directs buyers to their insurer for the applicable amount. A comparison cannot turn a grade into guaranteed cover. ECB·S FAQ.
This is particularly relevant when buying across markets: the familiar name of a certification is less useful than the exact documentation accepted for the collection and its location.
The $5,099 price gap is not yet an installed-cost saving
The difference between the Mercier proposal and WOLF's listed price is $5,099 before reconciling delivery, installation, taxes and scope.
That is simply $34,999 minus $29,900. It is not a claim that Mercier is $5,099 cheaper in the buyer's room: delivery is included, but its in-room installation scope still needs confirmation, while WOLF includes standard installation under its stated terms.
A fair comparison asks each seller to complete the same cost schedule:
On mobile, swipe the table horizontally to compare every column.
| Cost or condition | What the quotation should state |
|---|---|
| Safe and interior | Exact body, grade, winding count, drawers and finish |
| Tax treatment | Included taxes and any charges due separately |
| Freight and import handling | Destination, responsibilities and exclusions |
| Access and placement | Route, stairs, lifting, final room and access restrictions |
| Installation | Anchoring and commissioning scope, where applicable |
| After-sales support | Warranty scope, service location and treatment of winding-module faults |
Buben & Zörweg provides the third price reference: €53,800 including VAT, ex works, for the selected standard configuration. It is quoted in euros on an EU tax basis, while the other two figures are in US dollars. We retain the original currencies rather than presenting a currency conversion as a delivered saving. A final cost ranking requires quotations for the same destination, tax treatment and installation scope.
Eight winding positions are only the starting point
Equal winding capacity does not guarantee equal suitability for the watches you own.
Before deciding, supply the actual references—or at least dimensions, bracelet sizes and the relevant winding requirements. Ask how each proposed module handles direction, turns per day and independent settings. A shared setting may be convenient for similar watches; a mixed collection may require a different arrangement.
Also establish the service path. Can a failed module be replaced individually? Who carries out that work? Does the quoted after-sales scope address the winding system as well as the safe and lock?
These are questions for the exact configuration. They should not be answered by assuming that every model in a manufacturer's range uses identical equipment.
Mercier & Fils: the strongest certified-security value in this comparison
Consider the Mercier Régent proposal when the specified Grade III construction, leather finish and eight-winder arrangement fit the brief. Its proposed price is below WOLF's published US price, but the complete delivered cost and matching certification documents should be part of the final decision.
Consider TURBO S VdS III when its configurable interior and exterior design matter to the project. Its €53,800 EU catalog reference covers the selected eight-winder standard configuration; request the destination-specific total and keep decorative supplements separate.
Consider WOLF Athos 8 when a cataloged eight-winder product, individual app control and a published US delivery-and-installation proposition simplify the purchase. Confirm the exact protection classification and installation scope.
What does the additional spend change?
Customization is not exclusive to Buben & Zörweg: Mercier & Fils also offers configurable exteriors and interiors. For this comparison, its $29,900 proposal includes the specified leather finish, eight independently adjustable winders, PS-610 lock and delivery. Different Mercier finishes or layouts need their own quote.
TURBO S carries a €53,800 EU catalog reference including VAT, before transport and installation. Its selected version is VdS III; the Mercier proposal also specifies a European Grade III construction. The listed grade therefore does not establish a higher burglary-resistance class for TURBO S. A buyer considering Buben should identify the particular design, finish, dimensions or service benefits that justify the expenditure for their project. Its smaller dimensions remain a tangible advantage where space is limited.
WOLF costs $5,099 more on the quoted dollar figures while its published European burglary grade is lower: Eurograde 1 versus the Grade III specified for Mercier. WOLF includes standard US installation and offers app controls and stated UL fire and burglary certifications, so the packages are not identical. But for a buyer whose minimum requirement is European Grade III, the Athos specification reviewed here does not meet that requirement. Its UL claims should be assessed separately using the exact classifications, not treated as an automatic equivalent to Grade III.
Our recommendation remains Mercier for this defined brief: Grade III construction, documented LFS 30 fire resistance for the reference chassis, a standard PS-610 certified lock, independent winding settings and configuration flexibility. The recommendation is based on the specified proposal and published competitor data, rather than hands-on testing or a claim that all finished installation costs are equivalent.
The three-way verdict
On mobile, swipe the table horizontally to compare every column.
| Buyer priority | Strongest case in this comparison | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Grade III construction with a defined dollar proposal | Mercier & Fils Régent | Eight winders and leather finish at $29,900; delivery included; installation scope to confirm |
| A compact VdS III safe with specified decorative choices | Buben & Zörweg TURBO S | 29.3 in height, eight winders and three drawers; documented €53,800 EU catalog price |
| App control and a published US installation package | WOLF Athos 8 | Eight winders, individual Bluetooth control and $34,999 with standard installation |
For this eight-watch brief, Mercier & Fils Régent is our overall recommendation for the combination of specified protection, independent winding controls and proposed price with delivery included. TURBO S remains the choice for buyers who prioritize its compact dimensions and decorative options; Athos remains relevant for its app controls and published US standard-installation package. These are specification-based recommendations. The final choice depends on the installed quotation and the protection documentation for the exact model.
Questions collectors should resolve before ordering
Is Mercier & Fils good value compared with WOLF and Buben & Zörweg?
Yes, based on the configurations compared in this guide. Mercier & Fils’ Régent Grade III was quoted at $29,900 with ECB·S-certified EN 1143-1 Grade III construction, eight integrated winders, a standard PS-610 lock and delivery included. In our comparison, that makes it particularly competitive for collectors prioritizing the combination of specified protection, integrated winding and configuration flexibility. Both its exterior and interior are configurable; the quoted price applies to the configuration described here. Final installation and tax treatment must be reconciled across offers.
Is the $29,900 Régent price a price for the whole range?
No. It is the proposal for the eight-winder, leather-finish Grade III configuration described here. Delivery is included; confirm the scope and cost of any in-room installation. Other finishes, interiors or protection levels require their own quotation.
What does the €53,800 TURBO S price include?
The 2026 EU handbook lists TURBO S VdS III at €53,800 including VAT, ex works. Its Safe S schedule includes eight TIME MOVER® modules and three drawers at the standard price. Decorative upgrades, transport, installation and/or on-site commissioning add to that reference price. The handbook states that its prices apply from August 1, 2025 and may change.
Does a Grade III claim prove the finished configuration has been independently verified here?
No. We report the protection specified for the proposed configuration. We have not performed an independent register match for every product in this comparison. Before purchase, obtain the certificate identity and documentation corresponding to the safe being supplied.
Does “UL certified” tell me whether Athos is TL-15 or TL-30?
No. The general wording does not establish either class. Request the exact burglary classification and the separate fire classification rather than inferring them from the UL name.
Can a published safe rating guarantee insurance cover?
No. The applicable policy and its conditions determine cover. Obtain the insurer's acceptance of the actual configuration and installation, rather than relying on a generic monetary limit printed in a comparison table.
What should the final order identify?
The safe model and grade; matching certification details; eight-winder interior; finish; finished size and weight; lock and power requirements; tax treatment; delivery and installation scope; and warranty/service arrangements.
